Joshua Tree of Liberty

Tried to imitate the statue of liberty but obviously need to practice a bit more...
Katja and I went on a long hike through the National Park; always on the search for snakes, but unfortunately, little sidewinder didn´t show up - we would have built up a snake-memorial just for you, you know that!!! Why couldn´t you just show a tiny bit of your rattle to us???! What an iniquity!!!!

food I´d NEVER eat in three billion years - episode 49,7

Thanksgiving is coming up soon and the stores are filled with the weirdest foods in turkey-shape you could ever think of. While people in my home country would probably use this cake as heat proofing on a cold winter day or to hold a cake fight, some people out there in our Nation cannot do so, because they don´t have maps - eeeehm, taste, I mean:)

Jippie! Spaghetti unburnt à la carte

While we were cooking our spaghettis (oh, what a wonderful word: spag-het-tis, wonderful!), a little kangaroo rat came jumping by to see if we had prepared some food for her, too. So we left her some raw pasta outside as a midnight snack and then fell into our warm sleepingbags.

ich, der Schuh und die kröte - ohne ich... wie poetisch, hach!

Do you recognize something???! These are FAMOUS shoes! Well, almost. We tried to set up a still life - but who painted the original? Was it van Gogh or Rembrandt???

hippies in hot springs

Can you see the pool? With the hippies inside? It is GREAT, I´m telling you - you can soak in the hot water while it´s cold outside. You can watch the moon, count the stars and try to recover from the stupid-hot kim´chi some naked Korean people gave to you earlier...

Deep Creek Hot Springs - yeah!!!

...If you enlarge the picture with the rock & the water, you can see a naked hippie jumping around happily:)

So where are the hot springs??!

From Silverlake National Forest Katja and I continued our trip - we tried to find the Bowen Ranch near Hesperia. Someone in the village had told us, that we could easily hike to the long expected hot springs. Water, we´re comming!
Strange people are crossing our way... somebody who lost his third teeth in a bar and a bartender who actually didn´t find that strange at all - WEIRD!!!!

breakfast with prisoners

How long did I have to wait for this spectacular event I´ve been waiting for for such a long time: talking to real prisoners! Isn´t that great???! Well, unfortunately I couldn´t ask them all the 2,69 billion questions I would have wanted to ask, but at least I could say "hi" and they said "good morning, how are you". Not bad for a start, not bad at all!

breakfast juggling in Silverlake National Forest

We didn´t make it all the way to Hesperia, because we got lost in L.A. downtown (don´t even ask how we did that!) last night, so we decided to build up our cozy little tent on the campsite of Silverlake National Forest. And it was an awsome decision, as it should turn out later! First of all: we saw a BOBCAT!!!!! Second: it was cheap. Third: see for yourself on the picture above:)!

hey Mermaid, look what I found!

Besides the dead-of-the-week-series I could easily start a Barbie series. I could name it: "Barbies - dead or alive" or: "Pink plastic invasion". But this one is for Maria the Mermaid, the rambling queen:)
Tomorrow we have to leave San Diego in search for the hot springs near Hesperia, which were recommended to us by some old playboy-like grandpas which we met in our campground´s whirlpools...

San Diego - Sea World (oh, Im happy!!!!)

A bit kitschy, I must admit, but that doesn´t count here - We are happily sitting in the "splash zone" and don´t mind to get soaking wet. After all we´re visiting whales and dolphins!

little shark meets the big guys

Famous little shark finally meets his bigger cousins, yeah-yeah! As you can easily recognize, they are really impressed by this little guy. Little shark also sang a lullaby for the baby sharks, but this heartbreaking event can only be watched on Katja´s video player...

Dolphins!!!!!

hummingbird at Sea World in San Diego

What an amazing greeting by this tiny bird! And: I´m gonna see dolphins, yeah-yeah, so I´m really excited!!!

On the road again...!

Hey-yeah! In lack of an appropriate campsite, Katja and I built up our tent right next to an RV on a 55+ RV-park. I also managed to scare an old man away, who spuriously walked around the RV-grounds on his own by night:) Wuhaaaagrrrrrhäääää!

bye-bye Hilarissima!

Bye, Hilary!!! After a last night-hike in Sabino Canyon with Hilary and Christoper, Katja and I rented a big white car and took off for new, exciting adventures. The only plan was to go to San Diego first; then we planned to drift wherever places our luck would take us! Seems like a great plan, huh?

good-bye-hike with the hiking-meetup-group: Picacho Peak

If Katja would have known what we were getting her into, she would have probably never gotten into that car!!! But I guess that she still liked the hike in the end - we had wonderful views and a picnic at the top of the mountain and overcoming her fear of hights when climbing up the iron ladders was also a good experience. Ha, and the best thing was: we threw cactus-ribs down from the top of Picacho Peak to celebrate our successful climb!

raptor-free-flight at the Desert Museum

First of all Christopher gave Katja and me a tour through some new exhibitions, then we visited the coyotes, saw the raptors fly and stopped by the birds, the carnivors, the reptiles, the javelinas and watched a really cool gilamonster-rattlesnake-show!

wildlife at the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum

kisses for a frog

Katja´s attempt to turn a statue-frog into a prince-statue fizzled unfortunately. But anyway - who would have wanted to carry that big bronze-guy home? Or even to the car??! Maybe I should find her a real frog instead?

Hilarys only barbie...

Hilaaaa and her dentist-barbie - it can say "Great checkup!" and "Let´s brush!"
- isn´t it totally cool:)?

But to Hilary´s defence I should mention that she didn´t buy the barbie herself - she used to work as an dental assistant ant got it as a gift from her colleagues when she left her job.

Katja at the U of A!

Here she is!!!! It´s still really hot outside, despite the fact that it´s November, so we needed to buy some tank tops for Katja, so that she can enjoy the desert-sun!

disputed teabag

I have to introduce you to one of my favorite pieces of artwork: teabag on red ground with green paper. This extraordina-ry, but contentious painting can be visited in Zachary´s, the probably most unhygienic but maybe tastiest pizzeria of Tucson!
Good-bye-lunch with my lab: I don´t want to leave!!!! Maybe I should get food-poisoning, so I can stay longer?:)

Katja is here!!!!!

Katja is here!!!! To celebrate this spectacular event, Hilary, Ross and I took her to Tohono Chul Park to get a first taste of the Sonoran desert, try some cactus hugs and prickly pear lemonade.

paint your palette blue and grey, look out on a summer's day with eyes that know the darkness in my soul....

Oh, look how beautiful the mountains are! The nights are becoming cooler, the sunsets are more colorful these days and the desert unfolds its raw beauty.
